The Product Manager is not the CEO of the product.— Shreyas Doshi (@shreyas) May 7, 2020
The PM should not 𝘼𝙘𝙩 like they are the CEO.
The PM should however:
1⃣𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 like a CEO
2⃣𝙀𝙭𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙚 like a COO
3⃣𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 like a CMO
4⃣𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧 like a CFO
The thread goes on.
This is what makes the PM job incredibly hard.— Shreyas Doshi (@shreyas) May 7, 2020
This is also what makes it incredibly fun.
Wear multiple hats, build a variety of skills, make a profound impact.
All with a service leadership attitude.
There’s really no role like it.
I’ve been in similar conversations and I fully agree with these comments.
In my opinion ‘Product Manager as CEO’ encapsulates the responsibility of the role in the fewest words.
But also, the term ‘CEO’ could leave room for the role to be misunderstood as one with simply more authority than responsibility.
